Ottawa police investigate swarming robbery and sex assault in Confederation Park

Three people are still wanted by the Ottawa Police Service following a robbery and sexual assault near Confederation Park.

Officers say a man in his late 20s was surrounded by a group of five people who violently removed his backpack and sexually assaulted him around 1:05 a.m., Tuesday. The victim did not know any of the suspects.

The Sexual Assault and Child Abuse Section (SACA) is investigating the incident and has charged two men:

Abdulfatah Moallem, 24, of Ottawa, is charged with:

  • Sexual assault
  • Robbery
  • Assault with weapon

Jonathan Jampies, 27, of Ottawa, is charged with:

  • Sexual assault as party to the offence
  • Robbery
  • Assault with weapon
  • Breach of probation

Both of the accused appeared in court last week and have been remanded in custody.

SACA investigators are hoping the public can help to identify three outstanding suspects.

They are described as: 

  • Indigenous woman in her late teens or early 20s, with a small frame, wearing a red jacket and grey pants
  • Indigenous woman in her late teens to early 20s
  • Black man in his 20s, tall and slim, was dressed in black
