Ottawa school boards helping students without Internet get online amidst pandemic

Ottawa's English school boards are helping students who do not have stable Internet connections or access to computers, as they switch to online learning.
Students across Ontario shifted to online lessons this week, as schools remain closed due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Both the Ottawa Carleton District School Board (OCDSB) and the Ottawa Catholic School Board (OCSB) are working to provide their students in need with Chromebooks and internet hotspots.
The OCSB is continuing to loan out over 3500 devices to students throughout the week. The board is also anticipating providing 500 students with internet connectivity by the end of next week.
“We're in the process right now of collecting Chromebooks left behind at schools to distribute to those in need,” says OCDSB Education Director Camille Williams-Taylor. “We also purchased additional Chromebooks to distribute.”
Williams-Taylor adds, the board has been researching mobile hot spots to assist students who have connectivity issues and working on learning via smartphone as many students have phones.
