By Mike Vlasveld

Three people, ranging in age from 16 to 25, are facing charges after a man was assaulted and robbed on Hannah Street in Vanier.

Ottawa police say a man was walking toward his house on Sunday, May 3, around 8:20 p.m., when he noticed a group of people having a dispute in a nearby park. He yelled at them to stop making noise and continued home, but when he got there he was beaten up by the same people he had been shouting at.

Officers say the suspects tried to steal the man's wallet but were not successful. The victim suffered minor injuries.

The man called police and officers were able to track down the suspects in the area. One suspect punched one of the arresting officers.

The investigation is ongoing, as police are searching for more suspects.

Sandra Houngue, 25, Merveil Kouassi, 23, and a 16-year-old boy, all of Ottawa, have been charged with:

  • Assault with intent to steal (Robbery)

Houngue was also charged with:

  • Mischief under $5,000
  • Assault with intent to resist arrest

Kouassi was further charged with:

The two adults appeared in court on May 4 and the youth was released by undertaking.
