Extended household hazardous waste depots opening in Ottawa

By Victoria Williston

The city's annual household hazardous waste depots have been cancelled due to COVID-19 restrictions, but have now been replaced with three extended waste depots.

The first depot will be open for six days starting on June 22. This depot, located at 3100 Conroy Road will be open from 8 a.m. until 4 p.m., until June 27.

Residents are encouraged to visit the depot on their regular waste-collection day, to help limit traffic and make the process more manageable. For example, if your regular curbside waste collection day is Tuesday, the city is asking that you take your hazardous waste material to the depot also on a Tuesday.

All occupants must remain in their vehicles during the process. Staff will remove the items from the trunk of the vehicle, while also ensuring they maintain proper physical distancing.

Staff will also not empty and return bins, totes, gas cans and the like to residents, due to restrictions.

City officials will provide the details on the two other depots once the locations and dates are confirmed.

No electronic waste will be accepted.
