Another march against police violence set for downtown Ottawa this weekend

By Mike Vlasveld

The Justice For Abdirahman coalition is organizing a march to support the Black Lives Matter movement and to bring awareness to police violence against minority groups.

The event will start at 3 p.m., Saturday, in front of the Elgin Street police station, and finish at Ottawa City Hall.

Organizers say everyone is welcome at the event, to stand against the killings of George Floyd and Abdirahman Abdi, as well as countless black lives impacted by police violence.

The march is expected to be followed by a few short speeches, a prayer and a call to action.

The trial for the Ottawa police officer charged in Abdi's death is ongoing.

Thousands of people gathered in downtown Ottawa on June 5 for a rally and march organized by No Peace Until Justice, following the death of George Floyd in Minneapolis.
