CORRECTION: This article previously stated that City Councillor Shawn Menard was no longer a part of the Glebe BIA board. That is false and has been corrected.
There is a request for Capital Ward Councillor Shawn Menard to be removed from the Glebe BIA board.
Andrew Peck, executive director of the Glebe BIA, told 1310 NEWS Wednesday evening that they have asked for Menard to be replaced by another city representative, but no immediate reason was given.
On Twitter, Menard said he was just learning the news and can only assume the reason for the BIA's request is because it didn't like that he turned 19 of 300 parking spots on one side of Bank Street to help with physical distancing for pedestrians and cyclists during the height of the pandemic.
The councillor says he consulted with businesses and residents before asking for a portion of Bank Street to be closed to vehicles.
A statement released Thursday morning by Trevor Greenway, the Glebe BIA communications and membership officer said, “The current arrangement was not working in the best interests of our members. It was therefore decided that we would proceed with a request to City Council for a new delegate to act as a liaison between us and the municipality.”
