The Gatineau Police Service (SPVG) is advising the public that there is a python missing in Hull, but that it poses no threat to residents in the area.
The snake's owner contacted local animal control officials on Friday to say that the python had escaped from its home in the Hautes-Plaines neighbourhood several days previous.
Police found out Monday that the owner had since gone around putting up posters, notifying neighbours about a reward for anyone who found the snake, which worried officers.
The snake measures just under a metre (between 2.5 and 3 feet), it is not known to attack and usually rolls up into a ball when threatened — hense the name, ball python. It is mainly nocturnal and appreciates heat as well as cool and humid places.
Anyone who sees the python is asked to call 819-246-0222. It is not recommended to try to handle it, although it may have been used to it, this species does not particularly like to be touched.
