Police looking for witnesses in fatal hit-and-run on Baseline Road near Algonquin College

A 33-year-old Ottawa man is dead after being hit by a van on Baseline Road, just east of Woodroffe Avenue, and police are looking for witnesses.

Officers say a white, 2009 Chevrolet van hit a pedestrian in a parking lot just before 8:56 p.m., Tuesday, September 15.

The pedestrian was taken to hospital and later succumbed to injuries suffered in the collision.

Joly Bourgeois, 35, of Ottawa, has been charged with:

  • Dangerous Operation of a conveyance causing death
  • Fail to stop at scene of an accident knowing that, or reckless as to whether, the conveyance was involved in an accident with a person

He is scheduled to appear in court later Wednesday.
