Ottawa man looking forward to helping daughter through school after winning $100K

A 57-year-old Ottawa educator and coach says he feels on top of the world after winning $100,000.

Richard Sutton matched the last six of seven Encore numbers in exact order in the July 31, Daily Keno evening draw to win.

He said he usually plays using numbers that represent family birthdays, but he doesn't normally play Encore.

“I said to the cashier, 'Why? I never win,' but agreed to it anyway. I’m very happy I did,” he laughed.

Sutton shared the good news with his daughter.

“She told me I deserved it,” he smiled.

Aside from saving some winnings, Sutton plans to help his daughter with her education costs while she pursues her studies to become a doctor.

“I’m so proud of her,” he added. “I’ll also save some to treat myself when the time is right.”

The winning ticket was purchased at J.J.’s Market on Laurier Avenue in Ottawa.
