Greyhound moving out of Catherine Street terminal

Greyhound Lines Inc. is moving out of the Ottawa's central bus station for good.

The charter bus company said it's vacating the Catherine Street terminal, but that Ottawa still remains a vital part of it's network.

Greyhound has plans to open another terminal in the city, but it has not said when or where.

“As we work through the impact of the pandemic on our business, we will communicate well in advance our new location prior to a start-up date,” said a statement from Greyhound Lines Inc. “While we are eager to begin service again in Canada, we are using this time to ensure our future Ottawa location will continue to meet the needs of both our customers and our business.”

In May, the company halted service across Canada after the pandemic led to a 95 per cent drop in service.

That move affected 400 workers across the country.

The Catherine Street terminal is the main inter-city bus station, serving buses from Greyhound, Ontario Northland, Autobus Gatineau and Transcollines.

The charter bus company has occupied the station since 1972.
