Museum of Nature, Brockville Aquatarium to remain open following new provincial COVID-19 closures, guidelines

By Dani-Elle Dubé

Following the province’s announcement of rolling back on services due to COVID-19, Ottawa’s Canadian Museum of Nature says it will remain open to the public.

“The Canadian Museum of Nature remains open to the public following the Government of Ontario’s directive to close some public places on October 10 in response to increasing cases of COVID-19 in the province,” a statement from the museum said.

Since the museum reopened on September 5, it has implemented enhanced measures and modified procedures to ensure the health and safety of visitors, the statement adds.

These include new procedures regarding visitor flow and physical distancing within the museum, advance timed-online ticketing, wearing of mandatory masks indoors, increased frequency of cleaning and directional signage.

“In response to the latest government directive, interactives requiring direct touch will be closed. Vending machines will be removed, so no food will be available on site,” the statement said.

The museum will continue to follow public health and government recommendations and will make modifications accordingly.

The new special exhibition, Planet Ice: Mysteries of the Ice Ages, remains open.

The Aquatarium in Brockville also announced it will be staying open as it is not located in the Toronto, Peel or Ottawa hot spots.

They will remain open this Thanksgiving Saturday and Sunday as scheduled, unless there are any other unforeseen changes in the Brockville region.

“The Aquatarium continues to follow the Lanark, Leeds & Grenville's Health Unit as well as the municipal and provincial guidelines,” a statement from the Aquatarium said. “Aquatarium appreciates guests' patience with the facility as they adapt to the ways of operating in these uncertain times.”

Guests will be admitted by times and no more than 30 per cent of our capacity will be inside the Aquatarium at any one time, in accordance with COVID-19 protocols.
