Cottonelle flushable wipes recalled over possible contamination

A popular brand of flushable wipes has been pulled from stores due to possible contamination.

Some 2-million containers of Cottonelle & Cottonelle GentlePlus Flushable Wipes have been sold at many stores across the country, including Costco.

According to Health Canada, says the wipes may contain a common household micro-organism, Pluralibacter gergoviae, that could make people sick, especially those with pre-existing conditions or weakened immune systems.

The wipes were sold between February 14 and October 7, 2020.

The following products are included in this recall:

  • Cottonelle® Flushable Wipes, Flip Top, 42 Count
  • Cottonelle® Flushable Wipes, Flip Top, 2 PK x 42 Count
  • Cottonelle® Flushable Wipes, Flip Top, 4 PK x 42 Count
  • Cottonelle® Flushable Wipes, Flip Top, CA Pallet 10 PK x 56 Count
  • Cottonelle® GentlePlus Flushable Wipes, Flip Top, 42 Count
  • Cottonelle® GentlePlus Flushable Wipes, Flip Top, 2 PK x 42 Count

While there have been no reports of incidents or serious injuries in Canada, anyone with the products at home is being asked to immediately stop using them.
