New Centretown Neighbourhood Resource Team makes drug trafficking arrest

By Mike Vlasveld

A 23-year-old Ottawa man is facing a handful of drug-related charges after the Ottawa Police Service's (OPS) newest Neighbourhood Resource Team (NRT) made an arrest.

Centretown NRT Officers were on patrol overnight when they noticed a man driving an un-plated motorcycle with a loud muffler, west on Gladstone Avenue.

The vehicle was stopped by police on Arthur Street, north of Gladstone Avenue around 12:36 a.m., Thursday, November 5.

An investigation showed the driver had no licence and was wanted by Gatineau police.

The officers arrested the man and say he was carrying crystal methamphetamine, as well as an illegal weapon.

Mackenzie Morton-Rheaume has been charged with:

  • Possession of property obtained by crime
  • Possession of a schedule I substance for trafficking (three counts)
  • Unlawful possession of a schedule I substance
  • Possession of a weapon dangerous to public peace

He was released on a promise to appear in court at a later date.

The Centretown NRT was launched last week.
