Fees for water, garbage pickup set to go up in 2021

By Alex Black

Ottawa homeowners on city water can expect to pay more next year.

Once rates increases take effect in the spring, the average home will pay an extra $37 on their water bill, a four-and-a-half per cent increase.

That would bring the total to about $143 dollars every two months.

Pickup fees for garbage and recycling are also going up.

The solid waste fee on next year's property tax bills for single-family homes that receive curbside collection will rise by $10, while multi-residential households will see their fee rise by $15.

The section of the city budget dealing with water and waste has been approved at committee.

The full city budget heads to council for a final vote on Wednesday, December 9, 2020.
