Help celebrate Hanukkah safely with the Ottawa Torah Centre as it lights up a nine-foot tall menorah at its drive-in theatre in Barrhaven.
On Monday, December 14, people are invited to 111 Lamplighters Drive for the light up ceremony of the city’s first ever Hanukkah Drive-In Theatre.
“This year’s menorah lighting is done with the recognition of the crucial need for a message of hope during what for many is a very difficult time,” a statement from the centre said. “OTC will also distribute menorahs, candles and Hanukkah-at-home kits to those celebrating at home.”
Since large groups are not permitted to gather because of COVID-19 restrictions, the OTC will feature a Hanukkah film with two showings — one at 5:15 p.m. and the other at 7:30 p.m. The sound of the film and the lighting ceremony will be transmitted via FM radio and Hanukkah treats will be delivered to the cars.
“The menorah serves as a symbol of light and hope for us today amidst the darkness of the pandemic, as it did for generations before us,” Rabbi Blum, spiritual leader of the OTC, said. “The flames of the menorah shine out into the night, reminding us that even when confronted with much darkness, a tiny light can dispel it all.”
There is no cost to attended, but there is a cost to have dinner delivered to your car.
