Learn to Skate programs for kids are coming back to an arena near you.
The City of Ottawa says parents wanting to sign up kids for a program can browse the program guide starting Monday, December 14, but registration for these programs won’t open until December 16 at 9 p.m.
The programs are COVID-modified and will start in January at 10 indoor arenas and the outdoor Lansdowne Skating Court.
Classes offered are geared toward kids between the ages of three to 17 but some adult classes are also on the schedule.
- Just You and Me for new skaters ages three to six years
- Junior Gliders for ages six to 12
- Teen Beginner and Intermediate for ages 13 to 17
- Private skating lessons for all ages four years old and up
Classes have been modified with COVID-19 safety protocols and have a limit of 25 skaters on the ice, including coaches.
However, the Just You and Me program requires adults accompany their child on the ice for the duration of the program, so parents will be counted among the 25.
All skaters, including adults accompanying a child, must wear skates and a CSA-certified hockey helmet when on the ice.
And starting December 19, drop-in indoor skating is expanding to more locations with additional reservation time slots.
Outdoor public rinks will also be open, weather permitting.
Lastly, starting on December 13, the city will be introducing rink ambassadors at select outdoor rink locations. They will be there to organize fun activities in the parks while educating the public on how to prevent the spread of COVID-19.
