Ottawa man facing charges of sexual assault on children dating back to 1970s

A 64-year-old Ottawa man is facing several counts of sexual assault on children under 16 after a police investigation into historical incidents.

The Ottawa Police Service (OPS) Sexual Assault and Child Abuse (SACA) Unit began its investigation last fall, when it received a complaint regarding incidents dating back to the 1970s. 

Police say those incidents happened in Ottawa and Quebec, and involved a young girl.

Jacques Chagnon is charged with several counts of:

  • Indecent Assault
  • Sexual Assault on children under 16
  • Gross Indecency

SACA investigators are concerned there are could be other victims. The OPS is asking anyone with information related to this case to reach out by calling its tip line at 613-236-1222 ext. 5944, or to e-mailing mcm@ottawapolice.ca.
