Get the camping gear ready because Gatineau Park will be opening its campgrounds and sites for the upcoming season — but with some restrictions.
According to an announcement from the National Capital Commission Thursday, the NCC will allow people to camp on their properties but campers must all be from the same home address.
“Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the NCC has established additional measures to protect the health and safety of campers and staff,” the NCC wrote on its website. “These measures comply with Government of Quebec recommendations with respect to frequent cleaning of public places and signage.”
The maximum number of people allowed in Philippe Cabin is limited to 10 and group campsites are closed until further notice, however.
Among other measures are:
- Any person who tests positive for COVID-19 or has been in contact with someone who has tested positive for COVID-19 during the 14 days preceding their stay cannot be at a campsite. If symptoms are developed while camping, campers must leave the area immediately and inform the campground operator, who will then engaged the appropriate protocols. Public health authorities must also be contacted.
- Groups of more than one household may reserve additional campsites to comply with the new rules.
- Face coverings are mandatory inside public places, including the campsite reception, washroom facilities and the convenience store.
- All communal infrastructure remains closed until further notice, except for washroom facilities. Washrooms are only for the use of campers who have no other option in terms of their own equipment. Laundry facilities will not be accessible.
The NCC will open registration for its campsites on the March 15 at 9 a.m. This includes registration for its ready-to-camp units.
The 2021 season starts on May 14 and lasts until October 11.
