Hawkesbury man facing multiple charges after police chase stolen car through Kanata

A Hawkesbury man is facing a handful of charges after Ottawa police officers recovered a stolen car vehicle in Kanata.

According to the Ottawa Police Service (OPS), the owner of a Toyota Yaris reported the vehicle stolen around 1:30 p.m., Tuesday, March 16.

The vehicle was later seen heading westbound on Richmond Road, near Highway 416, shortly before 10:30 p.m., and officers attempted to initiate a traffic stop.

The driver failed to stop and officers remained in pursuit. Police say the stolen car hit a police cruiser in the process of attempting to escape.

Maxwell Dupont, 22, of Hawkesbury, was arrested and charged with:

  • Theft of a motor vehicle
  • Breach of probation
  • Operating a motor vehicle while prohibited

The accused is scheduled to appear in court on Wednesday.
