Stittsville man facing list of charges after hit and run leads to police chase on Hwy 417

By Mike Vlasveld

The Ontario Provincial Police is laying a number of driving-related charges against a 34-year-old Stittsville man after a crash on Highway 17 was followed by a police chase all the way into Ottawa.

Officers responded to the initial collision on Highway 17 in McNab/Braeside Township, around 4:25 p.m. on Wednesday, March 17.

They say the vehicle suspected of causing the crash failed to remain at the scene and continued speeding down the eastbound lanes of the highway.

There were no injuries as a result of the collision.

The next time officers saw the suspected vehicle was on Highway 417, travelling eastbound, just west of the exit for Kinburn Side Road in Ottawa.

The vehicle crossed the ditch in the middle of the highway, going into the westbound lanes, before coming to a stop on the westbound shoulder. Two people then got out of the vehicle and police say the driver started running through a field, toward Old Highway 17 before being arrested by police.
