Two suspects arrested in attempted south end car theft

Ottawa police have arrested two individuals in connection to an attempted car theft that happened around the Heron Gate/South Ottawa neighbourhoods.

On Wednesday, officers were called to the 2400 block of Virginia Dr., near Featherstone Drive, at about 2:30 p.m. to search for two suspects who had stolen car keys from a woman and were attempting to steal her car.

Police quickly located both suspects and arrested them without incidents.

Mahamoud Abdillahi, 25, and a 17-year-old male, both of Ottawa, were charged with:

  • theft under $5,000
  • theft of a motor vehicle
  • assault
  • obstructing a peace officer

Abdillahi is scheduled to appear in court on June 29.
