Nepean Point, Westboro Beach, Sussex Courtyard among latest updates from NCC

It’ll be a busy season for the National Capital Commission as it plans to revitalize a list of its properties throughout Ottawa.

According to an NCC announcement on Friday, the government body secured $52.4 million in funding to improve resiliency and ensure the safety of some of its most iconic assets.

This is on top of $5.5 million in funding the Government of Canada received in 2018 to support critical repairs and maintenance of NCC’s major infrastructure assets.

Among its focuses will be the Nepean Point redevelopment, Sussex Courtyards rehabilitation and Westboro Beach area improvements.

Some of these projects include bridges and roads, conservation and remediation, parks and pathways, buildings and walls, monuments and public art and redevelopment.

In particular for Nepean Point, the NCC is currently redeveloping the vantage point to create a “lively, 21st century park.”

The project is expected to be completed by late spring 2023.

For Sussex Courtyard, the rehabilitation work is expected to start in 2022, which will preserve and develop architectural heritage and continue to uphold the unique urban experience.

Lastly, for Westboro Beach, the NCC has developed a design aiming to create a “vibrant and active area” that will improve the quality of life for residents and enhance the experience for visitors.

The final design will be presented to the NCC Board of Directors for approval in fall 2021, with construction expected to starting summer 2022.
