Gatineau man facing 17 sexual assault charges involving six victims

By Alex Black

A Gatineau man is facing long list of sexual assault charges involving both adult and underage victims between 2012 and 2017.

The Service de police de la Ville de Gatineau (SPVG) began the investigation in response to a complaint about a sexual assault dating back to 2017, and over the course of the investigation, more victims came forward.

On Wednesday, May 5, police arrested Jean-Philippe Chaussé, 27, and charged him with the following offences:

  • Sexual assault
  • Sexual assault with a weapon (three counts)
  • Breaking and entering with the intent of committing a sexual assault
  • Sexual assault of a child under 16 (three counts)
  • Sexual assault causing bodily harm (two counts)
  • Sequestration
  • Producing child pornography (two counts)
  • Distributing child pornography
  • Making intimate images available (three counts)

According to SPGV, six people have now filed complaints, and there is evidence, including photos and video, to suggest there are more victims that have yet to be identified.

Police say many of the victims allegedly met the accused through the youth group home Héberge-Ados, where he spent time as a teen. The accused has been a military reservist since July, 2020, and according to police, has spent time in different areas.

Chaussé has been in custody since he was arrested.

The investigation continues, and anyone with information is asked to contact the SPVG info line at 819-243-4636, option 5.
