Fisherman rescues four from sinking boat on Ottawa River, including two kids

By CityNews Ottawa

A private boater on the Ottawa River is receiving praise after rescuing two men and two children from a sinking boat.

Fire rescue crews say the sinking boaters used a siren to alert others near Aylmer Island, shortly after 5 p.m. on Monday. That's when the fisherman located the boat in distress and let the four come aboard his watercraft.

A fire rescue boat then picked up the group, just as their watercraft completely sank into the river.

Crews were able to salvage the sunken boat and bring it to shore.

No injuries are reported and officials say all four rescued boaters were wearing life jackets.
