Two people have been charged after a year-long investigation into the death of a five-year-old girl in Ottawa.

Ottawa police arrested a man and a woman Saturday and charged them with several offences, the police said in a statement Sunday.

Following a year of investigation, which involved significant forensic analysis, police have arrested and charged:

Justin Cassie-Berube, 27, with manslaughter, criminal negligence causing death and failing to provide the necessaries of life.

Ada Guan, 25, has been charged with criminal negligence causing death, and failing to provide the necessaries of life.

On May 15, 2020, Chloe Guan-Branch, 5, was found injured at her home in the 1300 block of Meadowlands Dr. near Tiverton Drive and Eagle Lane.

The little girl was taken to hospital by paramedics where she passed away.
