More institutional COVID-19 outbreaks cleared in Ottawa, 32 new cases confirmed city-wide

Ottawa Public Health (OPH) is reporting 32 new COVID-19 cases in the city as well as the clearance of a few more novel coronavirus outbreaks at local healthcare institutions.

Outbreaks have been cleared this week at the City of Ottawa's Garry J. Armstrong long-term care home, The Ottawa Hospital's General Campus 5N unit and at the hospital's Civic Campus E5 unit. Combined, those outbreaks affected eight patients/residents and two staff members, with one death recorded at Civic Campus.

There continue to be COVID-19 outbreaks at five Ottawa healthcare institutions and one childcare centre. OPH is also monitoring two community outbreaks linked to workplaces.

Local hospitalizations due to COVID-19 are up to 14 on Thursday, June 17, from 13 on Wednesday. There are four patients still in intensive care units.

The weekly COVID-19 incidence rate in Ottawa continues to hover around 17 and 18 per 100,000 residents. It's fluctuated between the two numbers this week, landing on 17.4 per 100,000 on Thursday.

The local positivity rate remains at 3.6 per cent.

OPH says it knows of 282 active cases of COVID-19 in Ottawa.

No new deaths are being reported on Thursday leaves the city's pandemic death toll at 586, which includes: one person in their 20s; one in their 30s; eight in their 40s; 25 in their 50s; 70 in their 60s; 110 in their 70s; 203 in their 80s; and 168 in their 90s.

The City of Ottawa has administered 94 per cent of the 717,430 COVID-19 vaccine doses it's received to date. 

OPH updates its vaccination figures on Mondays, Wednesday and Fridays.

The health unit says 663,160 residents over the age of 12 have had at least one shot of vaccine, which makes up 74 per cent of all residents over 18 and 63 per cent of Ottawa's total population. According to OPH's vaccination dashboard, 126,034 have had two COVID-19 vaccine doses, which equals 15 per cent of all residents over 18 and 12 per cent of the entire population.

There have been 27,513 confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Ottawa (26,645 resolved) since the spring of 2020.

Ontario is reporting 370 new cases of COVID-19 on Thursday.
