Pedestrian bridge over Highway 417 in Kanata to be named after Marianne Wilkinson

By CityNews Ottawa

The Kanata Town Centre Pedestrian Bridge over Highway 417 will now be known as the Marianne Wilkinson Bridge.

Wilkinson dedicated nearly 50 years to municipal politics, serving as the first Mayor of Kanata and as a Councillor for Kanata North Ward. She was instrumental in getting the bridge built, helping to connect the north and south sides of Kanata.

Ottawa city council voted unanimously to make the name change on Wednesday, June 23.

“She is a role model for us all,” said Ottawa Mayor Jim Watson. “I've known Marianne for probably 30 years and consider her a friend. [I am] very appreciative of the strong voice she was for her community in Kanata.”
