ENDED: Severe thunderstorm warning issued for Ottawa

UPDATE: A severe thunderstorm warning issued for Ottawa has ended.

Environment Canada meteorologists are tracking a severe thunderstorm capable of producing very strong wind gusts, and they say it's heading for Ottawa.

As of 3:31p.m., the storm was located near Arnprior, moving northeast at 35 km/h.

The wind gusts in this storm could get up to 90 km/h, and Environment Canada says hail and locally heavy rain are also possible.

Severe thunderstorm warnings are issued when imminent thunderstorms are likely to produce one or more of the following: large hail, damaging winds, torrential rainfall.

The Office of the Fire Marshal and Emergency Management recommends that residents take cover immediately if threatening weather approaches.
