A serious two-vehicle collision on Highway 17 near Chalk River has sent one person to hospital via air ambulance.
Members of the Upper Ottawa Valley (UOV) Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to the scene, just west of Kings Road in Laurentian Hills, around 10 p.m. on Thursday, August 12.
According to the OPP, an eastbound passenger vehicle collided with a westbound tractor trailer.
The driver of the passenger vehicle was extricated from their vehicle by the Laurentian Hills Fire Department (LHFD) and rushed to hospital with serious, non-life-threatening injuries. The person has since been flown to The Ottawa Hospital by ORNGE Air Ambulance.
The driver of the tractor trailer was not injured in the crash.
The tractor trailer caught fire because of the collision, and the fire was extinguished by LHFD crews. The Ministry of the Environment is also on scene due to a fuel spill from the big rig.
Officers remain on scene but the highway has reopened between Plant Road and Beladair Road.
