Climate change, housing initiatives on Yasir Naqvi’s post-election to-do list

By Mike Vlasveld

Ottawa Centre will have a new Member of Parliament for the first time in six years, but it's someone residents in the riding know well.

Yasir Naqvi is set to take the seat of outgoing Liberal MP Catherine McKenna after Monday's election. He served as Member of Provincial Parliament in the riding, from 2007 until 2018.

He tells CityNews' The Sam Laprade Show that he's looking forward to working on more active transportation and chronic homelessness solutions in Ottawa.

“I cannot wait to reach out to partners at the municipal level, at the provincial level, but most importantly, the community associations,” Naqvi explains. “The community and social services organizations that do that important front-line work, [I want to] start working with them in collaboration so I can deliver on that.”

Naqvi says seeing LRT Phase 3 come to fruition is part of that active transportation and climate change plan, but the trains need to be reliable.

He also wants to see his government continue to take action that will show his constituents that he and the Liberal Party are there for them. That includes working with other political parties to make decisions that benefit all Canadians.
