Two Ottawa men are facing first-degree murder charges in Thunder Bay.

Around 9:20 p.m. on Sunday, October 3, Thunder Bay Police Service (TBPS) officers responded to reports of a residential fire and found Jordan Lapointe, 33, of Thunder Bay, dead inside the home.

The TBPS Major Crime Unit launched an investigation into the sudden death and fire, and later that week, the death was officially declared a homicide.

The police service soon identified two suspects, Shane Cabral, 19, and Michael Gomez, 20, both from Ottawa, who were already in police custody on an unrelated matter. The two were among four people who had been arrested in a recent police investigation into drug trafficking.

Both men appeared in court on Wednesday, October 27, and remain in custody ahead of a future court appearance set for Wednesday, November 3.

The investigation is ongoing and anyone with information is asked to call the TBPS at 807-684-1200 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477. You can also submit tips online at www.p3tips.com.
