By Dani-Elle Dubé

Fire crews are uncertain if any occupants were in a Baseline Road building near Algonquin College after they received a call about a fire.

Ottawa Fire Services (OFS) said they got a call from a monitoring company stating alarms were active on the evening of Saturday, October 30 at a residence located between Navaho and Deerfield Drives in Nepean.

When firefighters arrived on scene, they didn’t observe any smoke or fire but the panel indicated alarms on the third floor.

Crews proceeded to the third floor where they encountered smoke and a working fire was declared.

The fire was extinguished in the garbage chute and the fire was declared under control at about 4:40 p.m.

It is unknown if there were any occupants in the structure.

There are no reported injuries at this time.

An Ottawa Fire Investigator has not been requested at this time.
