UPDATE: Suspect identified in jewellery thefts at Carlingwood, Place d’Orléans shopping centres

UPDATE: The Ottawa Police Service (OPS) is thanking the public as it says it has identified the suspect in a pair of jewellery thefts at local businesses.

Anyone with information regarding the incidents is still asked to contact the Ottawa Police West Investigations Unit at 613-236-1222 ext. 2642.

The Ottawa Police Service is asking for the public's help to identify a man who stole a couple pieces of jewellery from businesses in different areas of the city. 

At approximately 11:30 am on October 14th, in the 2100 block of Carling Avenue, 

Investigators say a man walked into a business in the Carlingwood Shopping Centre around 11:30 a.m. on October 14, and said he needed help finding an expensive chain. When shown the piece of jewellery, he grabbed the chain from the employee and fled on foot in an unknown direction.

The next day, around 1:30 p.m., a man walked into a business in the Place d'Orléans Shopping Centre and asked for help finding a gold chain. The suspect was shown several chains, grabbed them from the employee and fled on foot where he was seen getting into an older model black Hyundai.

The suspect is described as:

  • Black
  • Medium build
  • Approximately 5' 10'' (178 cm)
  • Curly black hair
  • Was wearing a black hoodie with red writing and a white skeleton at the front and back, black pants and black boots
