Carp’s Santa Claus Parade cancelled

By Dani-Elle Dubé

The region’s rainfall and freezing rain warning has forced the Carp’s Santa Claus Parade to cancel its 12th annual event.

The Carp Fair made the announcement via its social media channels on Saturday, December 11 — the day of the parade itself.

The parade this year was supposed to take place between 5 p.m. and 8 p.m. and take on the format of a drive-thru style parade.

Ottawa and the region continue to be under a freezing rain warning for Saturday.

A special weather statement was also issued as strong winds of between 70 to 80 km/h are expected to start late in the afternoon or the evening.

Rain is also expected throughout the day.

Organizers, however, have made arrangements for Santa to stop by the Carp fairgrounds on Thursday, December 16 from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m.

People are also welcome to drive thru the fairgrounds to see the Christmas lights display while they say hi to Santa.
