Ottawa Fire Services launching virtual station tours

Ottawa Fire Services (OFS) is aiming to help parents who are looking to keep their children busy while learning from home this month by launching virtual station tours.

“A big part of our relationship with the community is our station tours,” explains OFS in a statement to CityNews on Wednesday, January 5, 2022. “Unfortunately, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, we have been unable to have anyone from the community inside our fire stations for almost two years.”

OFS says, pre-pandemic, its stations would sometimes host birthday parties, school classes or simply some young children who love fire trucks who stop by with their parents. Now, it's partnered with a local videographer to create two virtual station tours.

The first video features Fire Station 53 in Orléans. It's a composite station which has both full-time and volunteer firefighters.

The second video is of Fire Station 73 in Vars, which is a volunteer firefighter station only.

The videos take a look at fire trucks, other OFS equipment and key in on some fire safety messaging as well.
