Ottawa’s COVID-19 hospitalization numbers climbed slightly while the total number of active cases in the city dropped in the latest public-health update.

On Saturday, February 5, Ottawa Public Health (OPH) reported that 66 patients are in hospital with COVID-19 – one more than the previous day’s total.

There are 12 people in ICU – a rise of three from Friday’s nine.

OPH reported 172 new cases of the novel coronavirus, while the total number of active cases dropped by 102 – from 2,168 to 2,066.

One more person died of the virus.

There were four new outbreaks at health-care institutions for a total of 100 ongoing outbreaks.

At the provincial level, Ontario reported 3,204 new cases of the virus and 59 COVID-related deaths on Saturday, which it says occurred over the past 30 days.

The health ministry said of the 59 deaths reported, five occurred on Friday, 19 deaths on Thursday, and seven deaths on Wednesday.

Ontario saw a decline in hospitalizations compared to Friday with 2,493 patients admitted.

The number of patients reported in hospital on Saturday is 141 fewer compared to the day before, and is the lowest it’s been since January 10.

Ontario’s health minister says 54 per cent were admitted to hospital for COVID-19, and the remainder were admitted for other reasons but tested positive for the virus after.

There are 501 people in ICU with the virus.
