Ottawa Mission launches turkey donation drive, anticipating biggest annual Easter dinner yet

By CityNews Ottawa

The COVID-19 pandemic, a housing emergency and food insecurity has created a perfect storm in the Ottawa region, says the head of the Ottawa Mission.

As it prepares for its annual Easter dinner – with a second food truck in the mix this time around – the Ottawa Mission is appealing for donations from the community.

Its executive director Peter Tilley says the Mission is hoping to receive donations of 250 large turkeys – for a total of 4,500 lbs. of turkey – in the weeks leading up to Easter, which is on Sunday, April 17 this year.

The Mission’s annual Easter dinner is scheduled for Monday, April 18.

“We'll be in the process of picking those up, de-boning them and having them ready to go for the week leading up to Easter,” Tilley told the Sam Laprade Show last week. “And we'll still be doing an Easter meal, one in-house for our residents and one for the take-out lineup that we're going to have outside all day for people coming to pick up turkey.”
