LISTEN: Municipal Affairs Minister Steve Clark discusses Ontario’s housing plan, Kemptville jail opposition

By CityNews Ottawa

The Ontario Government is taking new steps to cool the province's housing market amid historic soaring home prices.

Ontario minister of municipal affairs and housing Steve Clark tabled the More Homes for Everyone Act in the legislature on March 30. The new piece of legislation aims to fight real estate speculation, speed up development processes and bolster the housing supply in Ontario.

The new plan has been criticized as doing 'too little' and ignoring many of the Ford government's own Housing Affordability Task Force recommendations.

Minister Clark joined CityNews' The Rob Snow Show Thursday, March 31 to discuss the legislation and respond to its critics.

Clark also weighed in on a controversial plan to build a new jail in Kemptville, which has come under fire from critics for using agricultural land on the site of the former Kemptville Agricultural College.
