An Ottawa Police Service (OPS) officer has been charged with two offences.

Constable Goran Beric has been charged by the Waterloo Regional Police Service with one count of assault and one count of assault with a weapon stemming from an incident that occurred on August 4, 2021 in Ottawa. The incident occurred while the officer was working as a constable assigned to patrol services.

Since the event occurred, the officer has been assigned to administrative duties.

The OPS' professional standards section was originally apprised of the incident and decided to transfer the investigation to Waterloo police for transparency. This incident did not fall within the Special Investigations Unit’s mandate.

This matter is before the courts and it is important to respect due process.
