The provincial government is committing $19.2 million for a new elementary school serving kindergarten to grade eight students in the Findlay Creek community.
Government officials made the announcement on April 21. The Ottawa-Carleton District School Board (OCDSB) purchased a 6.3 acre site located at 4501 Farm Drive at the southeast intersection of Kelly Farm Drive and Miikana Road for the new school. The new school will serve 674 students and includes a child care component with 39 spaces for toddler and preschool children.
“With unpredictably explosive residential growth in parts of Ottawa, it is challenging to keep up with the need for new schools for the OCDSB,” said Lynn Scott, OCDSB trustee and school board chair. “A second public school in the Findlay Creek community is urgently needed, and we are delighted that a new elementary school will now be funded.”
This announcement is part of a broader funding commitment from the provincial government's investment of $500 million to support 37 school projects, including 23 with child care projects across the province as part of the 2022-2023 Capital Priorities Program. This funding will build and improve schools and create new licenced child care spaces throughout the province.
