Ontario government provides $123K in support for seniors in Nepean

By Danielle Bain

The Ontario government is investing $123,000 to support older adults in the Nepean area through social inclusion programs, volunteerism, and community engagement.

A large chunk of that funding, over $74,000, will be allocated to six different retirement homes in Nepean for added infection screening, cleaning supplies and support for residents and staff.

“Our government is taking action to provide Nepean's seniors with high quality care and opportunities to live a more healthy life,” said Lisa MacLeod, MPP for Nepean, in a release. “With these investments, our loved ones, visitors, and staff will receive the support they need to keep everyone safe, including themselves, while remaining actively engaged in their communities.”

The retirement homes in Nepean that are receiving the funding include:

  • $11,707 to Barrhaven Manor
  • $14,218 to Chartwell Stillwater Creek Retirement Residence
  • $10,396 to Prince of Wales Manor
  • $12,253 to Robertson House
  • $12,362 to Thorncliffe Place Retirement Home
  • $13,290 to V!VA Barrhaven Retirement Community

This investment through the seniors community grant program is in addition to the $68.9 million in support the province provided to the retirement home sector since the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic.

“Ontario's retirement homes provide a caring and safe place for many seniors to live,” said Raymond Cho, minister for seniors and accessibility. “Our government will always step up to help residents and staff stay healthy and secure as we continue to manage COVID-19 for the long-term.”

The rest of the funding, almost $50,000, will be heading to two different local organizations in an attempt to bring seniors together to learn new skills, socialize, and stay active.

The two organizations receiving the grants are:

  • $25,000 to Indo-Canadian Community Center Inc.
  • $24,025 to Nepean Rideau Osgoode Community Resource Centre

The total sum of money invested into these causes is expected to help more than 275 seniors in the Nepean area.
