Fire ban issued in North Grenville effective immediately

By CityNews Ottawa

The North Grenville Fire Service has issued a total fire ban in the municipality effective April 29.

No open-air burning of any kind is permitted until the ban is lifted.

At certain times of the year as outdoor conditions warrant, the fire chief may issue a complete ban on open-air fires. When a ban is issued all open-air fires are prohibited with the exception of actual cooking that is taking place on a grill.

Open air fires are permitted, except in specified locations, provided you have a valid permit. Only residents living in approved areas can obtain a fire permit. There is an annual fee of $15 and is valid until December 31 of the year of purchase.

Permits are conditional and can be revoked at any time. If you are a tenant, you must obtain permission from the property owner. Regulations for burn barrels and fire pits require there be a distance of no less that 25 metres from any building, hedge or other combustible material, overhead wiring, roadway or property line. Such burning may only be conducted during daylight hours.
