Gatineau police are investigating a stabbing that resulted in the death of a 22-year-old Gatineau man.
On Saturday, May 28, Gatineau police said they received a call shortly before 2 a.m. that concerned a man with serious upper body injuries at 51 Court St. in Gatineau.
The wounds were allegedly caused by a knife.
According to police, the victim was lying outside a store when police arrived.
Despite attempts to save him, the victim was declared dead in hospital.
Police say the victim's family has been notified of his death.
Police had said earlier Saturday they were investigating a stabbing, but said an autopsy would be performed to determine the cause of death.
Investigators are meeting with witnesses, and Quebec provincial police are providing assistance to collect forensic evidence.
The next steps, police say, will be to determine the exact causes and circumstances of the death.
In order to preserve the investigation, police will not be releasing further information about the case.
Updates will be provided as appropriate.
It is the second homicide on territory covered by Gatineau police since the beginning of 2022.
The following streets remain closed to traffic for an indefinite period as police conduct their investigation:
- Symmes Street between Bancroft Street and Eardley Road;
- Court Street between Principale Street and Eardley Road;
- Eardley Road between Thomas and Symmes streets.
