Summer hours at War Museum, Museum of History kick in on Canada Day

By Dani-Elle Dubé

Visiting some of your favourite museums in Ottawa and Gatineau this summer is about to get easier.

Starting July 1, the Canadian Museum of History and the Canadian War Museum are both moving to a seven-da-a-week schedule for the summer and expanding their daily hours of operation by one hour, museums representatives said in an announcement on Wednesday, June 22.

Until September 5, the museums will be open daily from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., and until 7 p.m. on Thursdays.

The War Museum will, however, close at 5 p.m. on July 7 and 14.

The new opening hours also apply to the Canadian Children’s Museum, which is located inside the Museum of History.

There will be free admission at both museums on Canada Day and tickets will be released a few days before July 1.

The hours of operating on that day will be 9 a.m. to 7 p.m.

Canada Day 2022 activities will take place mainly in front of the War Museum, at LeBreton Flats Park.

That means access to the museum does not include access to LeBreton Flats Park, however.

The public is encouraged to access the museum by bicycle or public transit.

To ensure a spot, visitors must reserve times admission tickets in advance through the museums’ websites.

If visitors do not book in advance, or prefer to book in person, admission will b available on a first-come, first-served basis at the box office.

More information is available at HistoryMuseum.ca and at WarMuseum.ca or by calling 819-776-700 or 1-800-555-5621.
