A new six-storey residential care facility may be on the horizon for Ottawa’s Large Baffin house in the city’s south end.
The idea was announced at the City’s planning committee on Thursday, June 23, where, at the same time, the committee approved the official plan and zoning amendments for the facility.
The new build would be located on Hunt Club Road east of Albion Road, with the overall concept of the facility built facing Hunt Club Road and a future, four-story residential building to the south, along Sieveright Avenue.
The organization is a medical boarding home that provides accommodation and transportation services to residents from the Baffin Region of Nunavut seeking medical services in Ottawa that are not available in Nunavut.
The new facility would be closer to the airport and medical services than their current location and would increase capacity (to 350 patients from 195) and their travel companions.
The boarding home is currently located at 2716 Richmond Rd., in Britannia Heights.
Larga Baffin is an Inuit owned company by Nunasi Corporation and Qikiqtaaluk Corporation.
