Rogers outage impacting services across the city

A Rogers outage is causing network issues across the country since the early hours of July 8. 

Here's how the outage is affecting a number of different services: 

Air Canada

The airline said it’s experiencing technical issues with its telephone service provider — this is in response to a passenger saying they couldn’t get through about their lost luggage and asked for help.

Other Twitter users have been taking to social media to say they haven’t been able to get through to the airline when they have questions about luggage and flights, to name a few.

A spokesperson for Toronto Pearson airport said it’s seeing “minor impacts” from the Rogers outage.

“This includes possible delays with fuel operations and debit is not currently available in retail shops,” said Tori Gass with the Greater Toronto Airports Authority (GTAA). “[There are] no other impacts to operations at this time.”

City of Ottawa services

The City of Ottawa said there may be delays and disruptions when accessing city phone or counter services. 

We are aware of a Rogers outage and are assessing the full impact that this may have on City services.
At this time there may be delays and disruptions when accessing some of our phone or counter services.

Hospitals

The Monfort Hospital said despite the outage, its telephone lines and Internet service provider are working, however some services may be slower than usual.

CHEO said despite the outage, “we are here for you.” Hospital officials advise that some of their other locations are impacted.

The Ottawa Hospital tweeted that some of its services have been impacted. 

We are operating normally despite a widespread outage with our internet service provider, but some patient services have been affected. Our team is working to contact affected patients as quickly as possible. We will continue to provide information as the situation evolves.

OC Transpo

Some OC Transpo telephone services and information systems are unavailable and service alerts will be delayed, OC Transpo said in a tweet. My Para Transpo is available.

Ottawa Public Library 

As a result of the network outage in Ottawa, Ottawa Public Library is experiencing some disruption of services. Please note 

• Branches are open for their regular hours. 
• Customers can come in to browse books, check out holds, or borrow library materials. 
• No other services are currently available (no InfoService, no WiFi, no public computer use, no catalogue) while the network outage remains. 
• Imagine space and labs unavailable. 

Ottawa Police Service

The Ottawa Police Service said that its 9-1-1 service remains fully operational, and if anyone experiences delays or disruptions while calling, residents should call from a landline or a phone with another provider. 

Our 911 system remains fully operational.

RBC Bluesfest

In a statement to CityNews Ottawa, RBC Bluesfest officials said they have access to different providers and backups, and should be fine. 

Service Canada, Ontario 

Service Canada tweeted it too was wrapped up in the outage with call centres and offices, including ones that issue passports, affected.

The outage exacerbates passport delays that have left Canadians outside Service Canada offices for lengthy periods as the government works through a backlog.

“Please note that the current Rogers outage is affecting some call centres and offices, including passport offices. We will update [on Twitter] once resolved. Thank you.”
