Wheel hub failure cause O-Train vehicles to be pulled

A number of O-Train Line 1 vehicles have been removed from service for additional inspections out of an abundance of caution.
In a memo to Ottawa city council on Saturday, July 23, OC Transpo general manager Renée Amilcar said one light rail vehicle was removed from service for further inspection after an operator reported vibrations.
The inspection found a failure in one of the wheel hub assemblies and as a result, all trains with more than 175,000 km have been removed from service to undergo additional inspections, which are now underway.
“Currently, there are 10 trains in service, providing customers a similar level of service, every five to six minutes,” the memo stated. “Trains will be returned to service once the inspections are completed and they are deemed safe.”
The issue has been reported to the Transportation Safety Board of Canada. An update will be provided on Tuesday, July 26.
