Prescott Russell Trail launching electric bike program next spring

By CityNews Staff

With autumn approaching, a stroll or cycle along the Prescott Russell Trail is an opportunity to see the changing colours and picturesque scenery.

The 72 km trail is located between Ottawa and Montreal, Eric Collard, executive director of the Prescott Russell Trail, told The Sam Laprade Show on Thursday, Sept. 8.

Collard said people can stop along the way for a coffee, and they're working on adding more programming and maps to the trail, which saw an increase in use during the pandemic.

“People want to get outside, get some fresh air, and really enjoy the benefits, the health benefits, both mental and physical, of being outdoors, and getting some exercise,” he said, adding that he's seen families enjoying walks with a stroller and adults on electric bikes enjoying the trail.

Electric bikes have become a popular mode of transportation, especially for people wanting to go longer distances. This is why an e-bike project is launching next spring, which will provide e-bike rentals for the trail.
