A city council candidate is running on a platform that focuses on accountability and good governance.
Oonagh Fitzgerald, a candidate for Kitchissippi ward, told The Sam Laprade Show with guest host Derick Fage on Sept. 12 that her professional background would be helpful at city hall.
Fitzgerald brings years of experience working in the federal public service and as a lawyer, where she focused on ensuring organizations were accountable to their stakeholders. She hopes to also bring ideas from her past work at an international think tank — that looked at climate action, sustainable development and human rights — to council.
“I really believe Ottawa could be a world-class city. It doesn't need to be such a divided small town. We could aspire for something greater,” she said. “These kinds of ideas and knowledge that I'd like to bring to the city would really help.”
If elected, she said the LRT inquiry results in November would be an opportunity to review and work on improving oversight. She would also like to be involved in reviewing and making budgets and said she is passionate about sustainable development.
“I'm hearing from the residents that they are very concerned about affordable housing and addressing climate change,” she said.
