City warning residents of scam involving unpaid parking tickets

The City of Ottawa is warning residents of scammers sending text messages involving unpaid parking tickets.

The texts include a link to a website that looks like the City of Ottawa's website, but it isn't.

The City stated it would never request or communicated financial information through text messages.

“If you receive one of these text messages, do not reply to it and do not follow the link,” the City noted in a public service announcement (PSA) released on Oct. 13.

Those who may have fallen victim to this fraud are asked to file a report with the Ottawa Police Service's online reporting tool.
